MySpace users will get their own “@myspace.com” email address, according    to PaidContent, and sources close to the social-networking site have    called the service a “logical extension” to MySpace’s existing    instant-messaging tools.   The launch will be low-key, says the report, but the webmail service will be    rolled out to more MySpace users by the end of the year. It is believed    MySpace Mail will launch initially in the United States, though a road map    for global availability has yet to be finalised. MySpace, which has around 130 million members worldwide, has a particularly    strong presence with younger internet users, and built a reputation for    breaking new bands and providing musicians with a platform through which    they could communicate directly with fans.   PaidContent claims that plans for the webmail service have been in the works    for months, and predate the arrival of former Facebook executive Owen Van    Natta as MySpace’s new chief executive. Its report states that the MySpace    Mail platform will be run by “a bunch of ex-Hotmail guys”, including former    Microsoft engineer Rajit Marwah, who joined MySpace last year from    Microsoft’s Messenger and Hotmail teams.   MySpace will hope the move into webmail provision will arrest a recent slide    in visitor numbers. Facebook last month attracted huge interest from    internet users when it announced the launch of “vanity URLs”, which allowed    members to have their own Facebook web address.
