updated- action taken my dear EK friends thanks a lot for your support and appreciations yesterday I have spoken with Mawanella Police divisional commander- OIC , Mr Muthubanda, and he said they are doing their best to protect Dewanagala ancient temple. (It must be noted that he has involved personally to protect this site in number of early occasions.) He said, that they have visited to the site with the competent authorities ( including Sabaragamuwa governor etc:) few days ago and organised for an on-site meeting on 22-26th October to decide further action. They are planning to construct protective fence around the site perimeter and possibly, to set a security post nearby the site. Further he noted that the problem is ; not having a potable water supply for the temple. The other problem is the accessibility to the site. It takes about three kilometres of foot walk to reach the temple from Dewanagala junction, and no vehicle can pass as route is extremely rocky and stretched. But they are trying to do their best. Mr Mutubanda added that there are also some illegal settlers within the archaeological perimeter of the site (buffer zone) and those settlers are not only the Muslims , but are some Sinhala families as well..! Further , lot of ancient artefacts belonged to the temple have been removed by the treasure hunters long time ago in different occasions. OIC Muthubanda is a devoted officer and gentleman . You can contact him through this phone number. 035-2247222. Let us appreciate and support them. For further details/ enquiries please contact archaeological department to 011-2667155. further we have given maximum pulicity with key patriotic web sites and contacted all the relavant authorities here are links check www.sinhala.net and http://sinhale.wordpress.com/2009/10/18/urgent-action-needed-to-save-the-ancient-dewanagala-temple/ further the nation wide JCBO intends to take up this matter with the relevant govt institutions on their next meeting (joint council of buddhist associations= JCBO) As i promised we go ahead. :).please update .If you cuold please send me the actual name and any contact of Ayyandi..We want to thank him and higly appreciate his initiative.... if possible please find some young guys/girls and monks who prefer to involve in ground to protect and monitor further works..Lot of important people are ready to help....important jaya wewa uhox- Jaya sri
