The 564km road was inaugurated from the Al-Nathaa Intersection to the Empty Quarter on the Saudi-Oman border. According to a statement from state-run Saudi News Agency, the project involved more than 1.3 million working hours, using 750 heavy equipment pieces that suit the topography of the Empty Quarter desert, while the amount of sand moved to build the road totalled 150 million cubic metres, in addition to 12 million cubic metres of protection from sands and one million cubic metres of asphalt layers.
