Janaka Perera was a former High ranking officer in SL Army, who became the chief of staff finally afaicr. If we consider on that basis, then who are the former army personnel who got clearance to transport their cortege? I think nobody yet.. So on the first place, I don't see a reason why someone should spend Sri Lankan tax payers money to transport a dead body. I saw this comment made by Prime Minister just now http://www.itn.lk/news_04_20081008.html Even though Janaka Perera did so many good things to the country, he is again just another citizen of Sri Lanka. I think UNP organisers are just trying to sling some more mud on the government over his dead body... If his body can talk, I'm pretty sure he will tell not to airlift and to use normal means of transport. On the other hand, if Mahinda really wants to show his grattitude, then he should have allowed Janaka's body to airlift despite every other arguement. (Like he did to Mervin when he met with anaccident) Again someone can argue saying Mervin was a minister but Janaka Perera is not, and Mervin was airlifted because of his personal security etc. Maybe true. So there are never ending possibilities. But the bottomline is, Janaka Perera died.... Nobody knows who killed him. And nobody tries to figuere it out even. UNP supporters say it was a setup by the GOSL. and others say its another LTTE act. But nobody knows the truth other than Mahinda and Prabha.
