No, we don't. Government controls of all sectors through unnecessary regulations. What we have is a socialist economic system pretending to be open/capitalist market. Those companies went under because they were UNPROFITABLE. Those business that make losses instead of profits continuously should be eliminated. That is one of the most fundamental concepts of a capitalistic system. That way the resources those companies control can be sold to someone who can actually utilize them effectively. What would happen if those were government owned? (Like SriLankan Airlines which loses over 150 million USD per year) They would continue to operate while they are making LOSSES and eat up TAX PAYERS' money. That is bad for economy. Today we have a number of government companies eating up a massive amount of money. Those never go bankrupt because they are government owned. Yes, exactly that. I'm merely saying that the government should not intervene in the country's economy unnecessarily. Government has a number of other functions. Like security and keeping law and order. Yes. Those should be privatized(with as few exceptions as possible). An argument can made to provide welfare to those people who are unable to engage in economic activities (due to disabilities and such cases) which is perfectly fine. What do you reckon will happen? The current system isn't helping poor people. Instead it keeps them poor. A good example is the minimum wage, which keeps them from getting employed. And student loans are a good way to provide quality education that everyone can afford. But even here, the government should keep their hands out of it, because student loans given by the government is a disaster (in the US for example). Competition is good for everyone. In a deregulated free market EVERYONE will benefit. edit - 1) spelling mistakes 2) grammatical errors
