A <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platelet" target="_blank">platelet</a> <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_transfusion" target="_blank">transfusion</a> is indicated in rare cases if the platelet level drops significantly (below 20,000) or if there is significant bleeding.
