Message: <blockquote data-quote="lkdood" data-source="post: 8015960" data-attributes="member: 92282">PEO TV from SLT Vision Com is launching an innovative learning and  education channel bringing OL and AL classes to the living room, a move  that could well impact on the lucrative ‘tuition’ industry.                      "We are on the road to bringing tuition class  right to your homes, with the involvement of experienced and qualified  teachers, university professors, lecturers, university students and  educationists," Thusitha Weerasooriya, CEO of the company which is a  subsidiary of Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) said in an interview with the  Business Times.                       Using a current subscriber base of 30,000, the  company plans to introduce this revolutionary new medium of learning  for children using Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) technology.  It  will concentrate on GCE OL and GCE AL science and commerce streams as  the first step of this initiative.                         PEO TV will create an environment for students  to be exposed to Science, and Commerce subjects along with Information  Technology, Computer and Communications, Technological and productivity  enhancement skills from the school level, he added                        The advantage of this new education medium is  that students will be able to follow these programmes during their free  time learning subjects taught in schools in accordance with the  syllabus. Localized subject material will be developed as supplementary  programmes, similar to revision models with rewinding facility to enable  students to better understand the subject matter what was taught in  school, Mr Weerasooriya said.                        Mr Weerasooriya says he is determined through  PEO TV to transform Sri Lanka’s television to a person’s personnel  access portal with all the information they need as an when they require  it.                         He noted that his company is also planning to  introduce programmes aimed at life skills development including  personality building, spoken English and business management.                       “The main aim is to transform and better  people’s life styles using this powerful media,” he said adding that  they are also working towards making Internet browsing through the TV a  reality. While Sri Lanka has less than half a million Internet computer  users in the country, there are over 3.5 million TV sets.                         He said PEO TV with the IPTV technology is a  breakthrough meant to make life more comfortable. “We can look forward  to receiving SMS, answering telephone calls, paying utility bills,  personal banking, video calls, internet access and ordering your  favourite Pizza via your television through PEO TV,” he said.<a href="http://www.sundaytimes.lk/100801/BusinessTimes/bt04.html" target="_blank">Sundaytimes</a></blockquote>
