Active drug(the part brings about the desired biochemical effects)2. Excipient(compound(s) that helps to keep the active part stable, etc. eg. majority of a pill, cream bases liquid parts etc.)Both these plus the final products are(should) formulated according to mainly British pharmacopoeia, USpharmacopoeia, Indian pharmacopoeia etc.(Books with methods of manufacturing drugs)Even then if by chance a change in drug composition, is mainly due to change in excipient rather than the active component.And the standards which they manufacture also plays a part.Both parts can cause undesirable effects.If active part causing the problem no matter the brand.But if the other part causing problems sometimes(only) brand may be of importance.
