When you putting a password in to your useraccount in XP if your file format is NTFS, WinXP will ask you whether you wonna to make your Documents Private? If you pressed Yes. Then XP will lock that folder only accessible by specific user account.. This i just for protect your privacy...So you can't access that folder because it's locked using NTFS security.. You can't even access that folder from another PC(I never tried the Linux though)..  Dos can't access it either (Anyway normal DOS can't read NTFS partitions)...So you gonna need a NTFS data recovery software...
