According to new regulations all Unlimited Broadband users on all networks (Dialog, Telecom, Airtel, Mobitel, etc.) will be limited to 20GB per month. Users exceeding this limit will be slowed down to unreasonable speeds (3KB/s), the only option is to go for limited/volume based plans which are very expensive as the cost of 1GB of data will be Rs. 350/-.</p><p></p><p>So a average person downloading 60GB of data per month will have to pay a broadband bill of Rs. 21,350/- (without tax) per month. This depicts that the Government of Sri Lanka has managed to put a price on internet and removed the Freedom of Internet access to the people of Sri Lanka.</p><p></p><p>There is no official statement from the TRC or the Government. And most broadband users are unaware of the issue to date. The media has not reported anything up-to this date! because most fear writing against Government Regulations and mostly because the regulation has NOT BEEN MADE OFFICIAL.
