It is only applicable to the mass structures of the universe ( stars ,Galaxies etc).. So to understand and describe the sub atomic ,fundamental building blocks of the universe we use the quantum theory ..Quantum theory is itself gives strange results which are beyond our understanding ,and one might find it hard to believe as its not felt in the physical world.. Like one thing appearing at two places at once... Same theory (quantum theory) could be applied to mass structures ,In that case to anything as everything is build from those subatomic particles , but when the mass gets bigger the quantum effect will be insignificant ,so thats why we have to apply general relativity to them... Now Scientists are looking for a unified theory and that was Einsteins ultimate goal , to find unify these two theories or to find the ultimate law of nature which could describe both subatomic and the mass structures..
