The Chairman of the Sri Lanka Land Reclamation and Development Corporation Somaweera Chandrasiri said that the government recently repaired the major drainage systems with foreign aids and Treasury funds. A 40 kilo meter system of canals and bunds to manage the floods has also been constructed, he said. Meanwhile, the Commissioner of the Colombo Municipal Council Jayantha Liyanage said that the land provided by the government to the citizens will have to be re-taken over to prepare a sustainable plan to avoid the floods in the capital city.
