The colonial era prison has been shifted to Pallekele. Accordingly, the revamping work will be entrusted to the Sri Lanka Navy and the entire premises will be altered into a concept 'Prison Hotel' while preserving its old architectural value. Once completed the 'Prison Hotel' complex will be comprised of walkways, public waiting areas, food courts and  a spacious car park, one of the long felt needs city.
