You did a great service to the Elakiri community by opening this thread, I sincerely hope anyone going through the thread will think twice before spending their hard-earned money on a KWID or an alto. Future car buyer, this two cents is for you. 1. If your requirement is riding and getting shit done, go for a well maintained Japanese. You can get a comprehensive report of the car by taking it to the agents/ Car checks so you can get an idea on the condition of the vehicle and they will recommend you if there are any parts that should be replaced and stuff. At the end of the day you'll get a reliable car which you will be able to ride in comfort and reach your destination safe and sound so you can get your shit done, and your overall purchase cost + running cost will be almost same as the Indian vehicle. 2. Even if you sell the car within some years make sure you maintain the car properly. Keep all the maintenance records and emission test reports. If you price the car correct it will be sold in no time even if it isn't a Toyota. After all, it's a Japanese! "You can't go wrong with a well maintained Jap ride" is a belief car enthusiasts all around the world share. 3. Japanese cars have the best market value in Sri Lankan used-car market. Depreciation is non existant when compared to similar - priced Indian vehicles. 4/5. If you're bitten by the Brand new bug and you can't take the disease out of your system, atleast try to go for a KIA Picanto or a Perodua Axia. If you can't stretch your budget to about 2.5mil your best course of action is going for a used Jap. 6. Don't take chances with your life when you choose your car. You really don't have to, if your budget is more than 2mil. Go for the most practical car, but give a serious thought about the safety your car offers for you and your loved ones. Consider ABS as a must-have feature.
