The Peterites proved to be too strong and came out winning 31-10. Both teams ran on to the grounds hard and made it known that they were in for business. The Trinitians started off really well with a flurry of attacks and their relentless pressure on the Petes defense saw them going over for a corner flag try by winger Mohamed Seshan. The conversion was a hard one and was missed by Fly half Nimesh Yatawara. The Petes struck back immediately through their star center three quarter Dhanushka Ranjan. He did a small shimmy and avoided the oncoming defenders and ran 45 meters to score far left. The difficult conversion was put over by the Petes fly Dulaj Perera. The Petes then extended their lead through another brilliant penalty kick by Dulaj 40 meters out. The score moved on to 10-5 and this was the score at Lemons and it seemed as if the Peterites were getting in to their rhythm slowly.</p><p></p><p>The second half was played at intense pace had the whole of Pallakele at the edge of their seats. Both teams kept on attacking with some hard hitting and some brilliant three quarter play. The Petes surely had the better three quarter line and they were delightful to watch in full flow. The Trinitians dominated most of the second half but could not convert the chances into points. Their three quarters could not make use of the overlap they had in more than 3 occasions especially when one of the Petes three quarters was given a yellow card for an infringement. They had the penetration but lacked the finish. The scrum half for the Trinitians Rehan Weerakoon had an exceptional game in both attack and in defense and got good support from full back Kanchana Ramanayake in the first half.</p><p></p><p>The Petes prodigy Dhanuhka Ranjan continued his super form from the first half as he scored another blinder of a try. this took the Petes lead up to 17 points to Trinity’s 5.The Petes were ready to hit back again and this time it was skipper and number eight Keith Gurusinghe who muscled his way over the try line. The captain had a superb outing as he lead by example. The lead was extended to 24-5 with just a few minutes left on the clock.</p><p></p><p>The Trinitians got a consolation try in the dying staged of the match through their wing three quarter Akila Dissanayake. He was outstanding last year but seems to have lost his touch coming in to the 2010 season. The conversion was missed and the score board read 24-10 to Peters. The final blow came through thepapare man of the match Dhanushka Ranjan who chipped, collected and sped past the defense to complete a hat trick. The conversion was good from scrum half Meedin and took the score to 31-10 which was the end score. Meedin was brilliant at the break downs and proved to be quite a handful in attack.</p><p></p><p>Trinity will be playing another tough match next week in Kandy against Kingswood while Petes will play Prince of Wales in Bambalapitiya.
