Jayakody received his award at a ceremony held in Cairo on December 8. This is the first ever film directed by Jayakody.Dr. Lester James Peries won an award in 1978 at the Cairo Film Festival for his film Ahasin Wetunu Minissu being the best film from a Third World Country. This is the second occasion that a film from Sri Lanka has won an award at this prestigious film festival.Sankara is competing at the Kerala International Film Festival now being held.The film, a Somarathne Dissanayake and Renuka Balasuriya production will be screened in the first quarter of the Year 2007, in Sri Lanka.</blockquote>
