In the grand scheme of things what you say may be reasonable. If you consider the end result of us being consumed by the "time" - everything we do, everything we enjoy seems pointless right? - we'll be consumed by "time" anyway, so why bother? -if that is your reasoning, I agree, there is logic behind that. But me being the simple human I am, I'd rather set my purpose myself, everything I do, the end result should be me being happy, me being content. That is my purpose. In that sense distressing over the meaningless of everything is meaningless. IMO that makes more sense than depressing over the fact that everything we do is, in the end, pointless. for example, I love my car. I value it, I treasure it, I like discussing with people about cars and stuff - but I'm very well aware of the fact that some day it all will end, making my enjoyment of cars ultimately pointless. But I don't let that knowledge hamper me enjoying cars. Same principle goes for the life in general. Lord Buddha researched into the knowledge of our meaningless existence and worked hard to find a way to end the vicious cycle of us being consumed by time again and again, and he succeeded. (atleast I believe he did) But me, I have no idea where to start even if I wanted to end me being consumed by the time repeatedly - What I do know is depressing over that knowledge is meaningless - plus it's not enjoyable. So I follow the teachings of lord buddha and live my life according to his teachings, but I'm not trying to pursuit Nirvana. That's not my set goal of this lifetime. In that mindset, finding ways to enjoy my meaningless existence to the fullest is the set goal of mine. tl;dr : I'd rather enjoy this life as much as I can and try to die a happy man than wasting the limited time I have distressing over the fact that someday I'm gonna die
