Arabic is the language of Arabs. Sri Lankan Moors are not Arabs. Nor do all Sri Lankan Moors have roots in Arabia. Even if they do, we have over the last 600 years evolved into a distinct ethnic group of our own. For purposes of communication with other members of the Sri Lankan Community we have learnt one or both of the two key National Languages – Sinhala and Tamil. There is absolutely no need to introduce a third National Language for this purpose. Neither is a third language needed for communication within the Sri Lankan Moor Community. For purposes of reciting the Holy Quran we have learnt Arabic. This in my opinion is sufficient for Sri Lankan Moors. Learn Arabic, by all means. Why not ?.
