We as a Sri Lanka Telecom recommends the TRC to take over Airtel’s existing spectrum ownership, which can then be transferred transparently to the appropriate agency via open bidding process or any other acceptable process”.In similar occasion, TRCSL has instructed Hutchison Telecommunications Lanka (Pvt) Limited (Hutch Lanka) to hand over 5MHz of its 900MHz band spectrum to TRCSL, subsequent to its merger with the Etisalat Lanka (Private) Limited (ESL).Spectrum range is an important asset and resource for mobile network operators (MNOs), and additional spectrum ownership could provide significant business opportunities.“As a regulator, we are ready to   set up an equal, level playing field for all telecom operators in Sri Lanka, and we will consider SLT matter seriously,” TRCSL sources meanwhile told Finance Today.Sri Lanka currently boasts 100% mobile penetration, with two dominant operators (Dialog and Mobitel) commanding 80% market share with extensive 4G infrastructure.
