Then I manually turned off power to the PC and opened the case and power the PC back on. Then everything was fine but the sounds were a bit distroted. I thought the driver was corrupt so I did a scan disk (chkdsk) on the HDD's. Then I noticed the scan disk took over 2 hours to check a 17GB partition! my other partition was 60GB, I was shocked. Then I skipped scan disk and me and my friends played games and stuff but the PC was very slow. Then after playing games I wanted to find out why the PC became so slow, I started off by rebooting the system into safe mode then I noticed even safe mode is slow .

Then I started up the HD Tune program and ran disk error check what I found was very distrubing! At first glance I knew the HDD is dying and looked up on google which did conferm that the HDD is dying. The drive was under warranty so I wasn't that much bothered. Then ran the system off my emergency 20GB drive and formatted my faulty HDD thinking it would fix the problem (I had my 100% backup though, backup is done everyday ). After the complete format the problem was still there so I ran a S.M.A.R.T check on the drive and found the "Ultra DMA CRC Error count" was at 23! while all my other HDD's were at 0. When I looked up the information on that I found out that when the "Ultra DMA CRC Error count" is larger than 0 it means the drive is having a problem communicating with the motherboard (this is when data is not sent correctly) it ment that there was a fault in the drive connection!
Hi :D I run a web server at http://csoft-p.no-ip.info. Well anyway, yesterday morning I got up and went to Outlook to check my e-mail. And then I started hearing a one of my HDD's (I have two, 1. Data, 2. Backup) spining up (it was like starting up) like 10 times! I knew something was wrong but before I can even think the PC (server) started really slowing down! then I thought "ok, one of my HDD's is dying". The HDD that runs the system (not the backup drive) is reading data at 3.3MB/s! which was 50MB/s before! At first glance I knew the HDD is dying and looked up on google which did conferm that the HDD is dying. The drive was under warranty so I wasn't that much bothered. Then ran the system off my emergency 20GB drive and formatted my faulty HDD thinking it would fix the problem (I had my 100% backup though, backup is done everyday :D). (meaning of CRC http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyclic_redundancy_check). I got my tooth brush and cleaned the SATA cable pins on the cable jack and the pins in the motherboard and hard drive. Then I plugged it back in and viola! I got 50MB/s on HD Tune. My so called faulty Hard Drive is a Hitachi Deskstar 80GB 7200rpm SATA. Enjoy!
