After their bowlers had restricted the Zimbabweans to a modest 146, unbeaten half-centuries from captain Tillakaratne Dilshan and Malinda Warnapura guided them to victory with more than 20 overs to spare. The Zimbabweans' decision to bat first backfired as they lost Vusi Sibanda and Chamu Chibhabha with just 13 on board. Brendan Taylor and Tatenda Taibu then helped their side recover with a brisk 57-run stand off 63 balls. Taibu was dropped by Dilshan at point in the 16th over but medium-pacer Ishara Amerasinghe struck off the next ball as a chip from Taylor ended up in the hands of Dilruwan Perera at third man. After Taylor's dismissal, the Zimbabweans were unable to string together any partnerships - the highest stand being the one for the eight wicket which yielded 18 runs. Keith Dabengwa scored a sedate 45 to anchor the innings but he didn't get much support as none of the last five could reach double-figures. Amerasinghe, coming in place of Sujeewa de Silva, who has been called up to the Sri Lankan national side in Australia, took three top-order wickets while left-arm spinner Rangana Herath had impressive figures of 4 for 19. The Sri Lankan chase got off to a shaky start with Mahela Udawatte nicking Gary Brent to the wicketkeeper Taibu in the first over. Perera also fell early, but Dilshan and Warnapura, whose centuries set up the Sri Lankan victory in the first match, continued their good form to see their side canter to a win.
