The whole world could not make many movies of that caliber. But they were made in many countries all over the world. The Times of India wrote that -It is absurd to compare it with any other Indian cinema Pather Panchali is pure cinema Sathyajith Ray made Pather Panchali. It was Ray's first movie..... British critique Basil Wright commented, "I have never forgotten the private projection room at the British Film Institute during which I experienced the shock of recognition and excitement when, unexpectedly, one is suddenly exposed to a new and incontrovertible work of art- The same way the western directors like Steven Spielberg, George Lucas worshipped the eastern director Kurosawa. # Francis Ford Coppola said- One thing that distinguishes Akira Kurosawa is that he didn't make a masterpiece or two masterpieces, he made, you know, eight masterpieces. # Zhang Yimou - said Other filmmakers have more money, more advanced techniques, more special effects. Yet no one has surpassed him. Twenty years after the release of Pather Panchali, Akira Kurosawa summarised the magic of the film as follows, -I can never forget the excitement in my mind after seeing it. I have had several more opportunities to see the film since then and each time I feel more overwhelmed. It is the kind of cinema that flows with the serenity and nobility of a big river... People are born, live out their lives, and then accept their deaths. Without the least effort and without any sudden jerks, Ray paints his picture, but its effect on the audience is to stir up deep passions. How does he achieve this? There is nothing irrelevant or haphazard in his cinematographic technique. In that lies the secret of its excellence- West praise Kurosawa, he praises Ray, In Ray's book -Our Films, Their Films- is an anthology of film criticism by Ray. Ray first discusses Indian film, before turning his attention towards Hollywood and specific international filmmakers (Charlie Chaplin, Akira Kurosawa) and movements like Italian neorealism. So It is a circle... Where is the best.. Only Good movies... So when we think about what is good, the countries don't matter... If you try to prove our country is the best... just to get a bit puffed up, we miss the truth and act like idiots who are ignorant of the world. Our inteligence is wasted trying to prove something very temporary and in relation to the truth just a lie. When we do it in the public many would laugh at us but we don't hear.
