coincidentally enough I'm listening to a new track by Green Day  "viva la gloria" and a part of the lyrics go on like this:
Little girl, little girl Why are you crying? Inside your restless soul, your heart is dying. Little one, little one Your soul is purging Of love and razor blades Your blood is surging Run away From the river to the street And find yourself with your face in the gutter You're a stray for the salvation army There is no place like home When you got no place to go
you better listen to the whole track :oo: nevermind hehe, I was just taking a pun  Back to the topic, wanna say that when you have a motherland, it comes above all, even it's the worse place on earth it is priceless to someone who is born there. And if someone can't appreciate their own land and goes on praising other places there is something wrong with the mentality of that one. (coz patriotism to one's country comes naturally and it is not a thing to be enforced) I agree there are cultural influences from India on Sri Lanka, still doesn't means we are second to them, it doesn't mean we have to "bow down to them" There are things to learn and there are things to appreciate, still we can be proud of our own heritage (over 2000 years of so is enough to make our culture something different. it's not anything even loosely related to indian culture now, we can proudly say it's something of our own, sri lankan culture) remember not only from india did we get our influences, the arab world, the west (dutch and portuguese, also the brits) they have influenced our culture and the way we think. How a lankan thinks is way different from an indian, and to tell you a lankan's view is much more acceptable and modern. What I want to note down is, it's ok to have cultural influences from others, but it doesn't mean we are not unique or we are slaves. But proudly we can say we got the best of the world and developed something uniquely ours. :)
