India, Pakistan and Indonesia who are from the Asia Pacific region are ranked well below Sri Lanka in the rating for 2010 released by London’s Legatum Institute. The prosperity index is based on 89 variables over 110 countries, grouped into eight sub-indices, and claims to comprehensively rank the level of prosperity in 110 nations of the world. It is done by taking into account both economic growth and citizens’ quality of life, drawing on data from various sources, including the Gallup World Poll 2009 and UN development Report. “The Legatum Prosperity Index is the world’s only global assessment of wealth and well being. It uses a holistic definition of prosperity, which includes factors ranging from economic growth to health and education, to personal freedom and governance,” Legatum Institute Senior Fellow Ashley Lenihan said. India has slipped 10 places to the 88th spot, way below neighbouring China, in the World Prosperity Index. Last year India stood at 78th position, according to London-based Legatum Institute that compiled the index. Agenciesලොව සමෘද්ධිමත්ව රටවල් පිළිබඳ දර්ශකයේ 59 වන ස්ථානයට පත්වීමට ශ්‍රී ලංකාව සමත්ව තිබේ. ලන්ඩනය කේන්‍ද්‍ර කර ගනිමින් අද(01) නිකුත් කළ නවතම සමීක්ෂණ වාර්තාවකට අනුව ලෝකයේ සෞභාග්‍යවත් රාජ්‍යයන් අතරින් 59 වන ස්ථානය ශ්‍රි ලංකාවට හිමිව තිබීම විශේෂත්වයකි. 2009 වසරේ ශ්‍රී ලංකාවට 68 වන ස්ථානය හිමිව තිබුණි. ඒ අනුව වසරක් තුළදී ස්ථාන නවයක් ඉදිරියට පැමිණීමට ශ්‍රී ලංකාවට හැකි වී තිබේ. මෙම වර්ගීකරණයේ ඉන්දියාව 88 වන ස්ථානයේ සහ පාකිස්ථානය 109 වන ස්ථානයේ පසුවෙයි. රටවල් 110ක ආර්ථික වර්ධනය, ජනතාවගේ ජීවන තත්ත්වය, සෞඛ්‍යය, අධ්‍යාපනය සහ පුද්ගල නිදහස ඇතුළු ක්ෂේත්‍ර රැසක් පිළිබඳ විවිධ මාර්ග වලින් කරුණු අධ්‍යයනය කිරීමෙන් පසු මෙම වර්ගීකරණය සිදුකර ඇත. ලෝකයේ වඩාත්ම සමෘද්ධිමත් රාජ්‍යය ලෙස නෝර්වේ රාජ්‍යය නම්කර තිබේ. ඩෙන්මාර්කය සහ ෆින්ලන්තය පිළිවෙලින් දෙවන සහ තෙවන ස්ථාන වලට පත්ව සිටියි. අමෙරිකාව 10 වන ස්ථානයේත්, එංගලන්තය 13වන ස්ථානයේත් පසුවෙයි.
