Sky Network’s 4G takes broadband to new level in Sri Lanka Sky Network Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of the Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) Group, has introduced WiMAX 16e, popularly known as 4G technology, to the country with an initial investment of Rs. 550 million and expected investment of Rs. 12.5 million in Phase two. It is to be marketed under the brand name Skymax which is inspired by Sky Network, the provider, and WiMAX, the technology. Furthermore, Skymax assures maximum functionality and efficiency, both of which are now within the reach of the discerning customer. Launching the WiMAX 16e at a ceremony in Colombo on Tuesday, SLT CEO Greg Young said “with the launch of Sky Networks Wimax16e network based on our SLT NGN architecture and blueprint, we will demolish the barriers of the digital divide and enable all Sri Lankans to enjoy access to high speed fixed broadband service.” He pointed out; “the WiMax 16e technology as used in our Sky Network, is marketed and positioned in some countries as a 4G service, but notwithstanding any branding or designation, most importantly are the benefits that it will deliver to our customers – namely cost effective, high performance, fixed wireless broadband service – particularly for customers outside the reach of our fixed ADSL broadband network.” He said they were experiencing ongoing strong demand for fixed broadband service having passed the 200,000th customer milestone in October last year. “However the provision of broadband over fixed-line services has limitations in its reach to areas served by our wireline network, so we are extremely pleased that Wireless broadband through WiMAX 16e (mobile) technology can fill these gaps,” Mr Young added. Skymax CEO Mahinda B. Herarth noted that this technology, already available in countries like the US, Russia, Taiwan, Japan, Korea and Malaysia, offers the customer superior performance at the most cost-effective price. The WiMAX 16e Broadband Service of Sky Network will offer a superior broadband experience for the household customer, while the SME and corporate sector could enjoy a broadband service with certified information rates. “Our vision is to give each and every person in Sri Lanka the freedom to access high-speed broadband connectivity and digital content, anywhere in the island at anytime,” he added http://www.elakiri.com/forum/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=9231476
