He had undergone a major surgery for his back pain recently.By his move, Karunanidhi’s has virtually stolen the thunder from his bete noire Jayalalithaa Jayaram, AIADMK chief, who has come to centre stage of Dravidian politics by declaring that she would strive to get Eelam for Lanka Tamils if her party is voted in all the 40 Lok Sabha constituencies next month.The DMK leader has been cornered in a manner of speaking in recent weeks with opposition accusing of failing to ensure ceasefire in Sri Lanka.On hearing about his fast, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh telephoned Karunanidhi, who received the call sitting in a wheel chair. What the two leaders discussed is not immediately known.Huge crowds of DMK supporters have gathered at the fast site.Daughter Kanimozhi, grand nephew Kalanidhi Maran, party seniors, T R Baalu and Arcot Veeraswamy and a host of DMK leaders are by his side.
