UNP Colombo District Parliamentarian Sujeewa Senasinghe speaking to Daily Mirror online today said that the Minister of Higher Education should resign forthwith due to the fiasco surrounding the Advanced Level results. “In a country that is governed by sound principles the Minister in charge would resign immediately, the Advanced Level exam is a turning point in any child's life and it is the future of these children that the authorities are playing with,” he said. The Parliamentarian went on to point out that the release of error filled results was not the only instance that authorities had faulted in recent times. “ There have been countless instances where the department has played havoc, the setting of wrong questions in question papers, the non implementation of policy, the policies being out of date are all direct responsibilities of the government,” he said. Senasinghe went on to point out that the country has been pulled back due to the inefficiency and short sightedness in the education system. “The system as a whole is crumbling, with the country having access to advanced technology its laughable that the government continues to put the lives and future of the student at risk with no concern whatsoever.” Senasinghe went on to point out that the youth would get frustrated and lose confidence in the system. “We witnessed many uprisings by frustrated youth, this is exactly what this country is heading towards due to inefficiency and total disregard of the value for the future of the students would lead to,” he said. DM
