I did a huge facepalm when I heard that statement from RW. He's purportedly an educated man and a master of global politics. But he doesn't seem to know that Hindi is only spoken in North/North Central India and a vast majority industries that contribute to India's development are in the four southern states and West Bengal, where hardly anyone can read Hindi. And in Tamil Nadu (which is India's largest automotive manufacturing state) hardly anyone can speak Hindi. India's competitive advantage is, and will always be its status as a country with one of the world's largest English-speaking population (although with a hideous accent). Narendra Modi is desperately trying to appeal to the uneducated masses from Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Bihar by being the Hindi speaking prime minister on the "global stage" and those masses seem to believe that Modi will make the whole world speak Hindi. Is RW one of them too? PS. there's absolutely no harm in learning a new language. But if RW thinks learning Hindi is the way forward to becoming a developed nation, then his so-called "education" itself is questionable. PPS. I have no clue about "Chinese". However, what I know is there's no language called "Chinese". Its either Cantonese (spoken in Southern China, Hong Kong and Malaysia) or Mandarin (promoted by the government and spoken elsewhere in China). Ironically, most of China's development is driven from the Southern regions, but all the advertised "Chinese Language" courses in SL teach Mandarin!
