Minister Mervyn Silva was chided yesterday by two senior Cabinet ministers for his continuous attacks on the media saying that he would be ‘punished by the gods’ some day. “As a Government we are condemning the despicable act involving Minister Silva,” SLFP General Secretary Maithripala Sirisena told a media conference with reference to the incident where two cameras belonging to the Sirasa TV crew had been grabbed and the cameramen prevented from covering the opening of the Kelaniya flyover. “He would be punished by the gods anyway,” the minister said adding that “he had already drawn the wrath of the leadership.” The minister said that President Mahinda Rajapaksa too had advised Minister Silva to refrain from such activities in the future adding that the necessary disciplinary action would be taken against him soon.Addressing the media, Minister Susil Premajayantha while observing such incidents should not happen said “some people have habits and manners peculiar to them.” When asked about the progress of the Ministerial Committee appointed by the SLFP to inquire into the incident at the State owned Rupavahini involving Minister Silva, Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said that the final report would be submitted soon after the PC elections. “These days members of that Committee are busy with the election campaigns and we have to wait until these elections are over,” Minister De Silva said. He also said that that particular Committee met six times since its inception. “We already recorded statements and went through other evidence as well. As a responsible committee we have to go through the evidence carefully,” he said. DailyMirror
