Dear friends, This is a plea not to use this book as a reference... unless you know what you are doing.. and know how to filter out the Teachings of Sammasambuddha Gauthama from others.... I did not read it all. Looking at first few pages is sufficient to see the Mahayana origin/influence... It might nevertheless have original content; why risk ourselves when we have the whole Tipitaka online [http://www.mettanet.org/tipitaka/ ] and many other resources.. As we know birth of Mahayana concepts marks the fall of Buddha Sashana (e.g. see what happened to India)... And if you have Shraddha, you should be also knowing that ruing of Dhamma comes from inside - when people starts to regard Adhamma as Dhamma; and Avinaya as Vinaya. Mahayana rejects ability to attain Nibbana as followers; and hence it is no longer Sandhittika. Its followers hope to becomes Buddhas and try to cultivate Paramitha... In other words the Noble Eightfold Path is closed to all its disciples.. Unfortunately we see Sri Lankans (both lay and monks) trying to push Mahayana concepts; Bodhisathva vandana; etc. in to what we practice in Sri Lanka... So sad to see it happens, when we know for sure that the ruin comes (one day) from inside... Another thing: beware when taking things from western texts... esp. those written by the lay people, Mahayana monks, etc... I am saying this with some experience; people known/accepted to be knowledgeable Buddhists in western countries (perhaps even conducting mediation retreats etc.) may not even have proper Akarawathi Shraddha many Sri Lankans have... (This does not mean I am correct; but even a beginner like I can see how far away some of them are from the Path... I know it's not good to generalize like this; but what I want to say is that people gets accepted as "knowledgeable Buddhists" more easily in western countries; so one should be more cautious when reading western scholarly texts on Buddhism... It's my personal opinion - you are free to accept or not.) Please disregard this Book; even though it should be having accurate content inside... Thanks... With Metta... Theruwan saranai!
