Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene admitted his side made too many "mistakes" after their seven-wicket defeat to India in the deciding fixture of the ODI series. Yuvraj Singh hit an unbeaten 95 and man-of-the-series Sourav Ganguly was not out for 58 as India scored 263 for three, surpassing Sri Lanka's 259 for seven. That total had been achieved thanks to Chamara Silva's 107 not out - his maiden ODI ton - in an innings cut short to 47 overs because of dew. Jayawardene said: "I think we made a lot of mistakes. "The top order in particular played a lot of loose shots. "The only bright spot today for us was the batting of Chamara Silva, who did very well under pressure. "I think a lot of credit must go to India as they played excellent cricket. "When we batted first we knew the pitch would have some movement and we had to survive the first half hour. "However on this pitch we needed at least 280 to 290 as it was such a great pitch to bat on. "Trying to achieve that we had to take chances. "Looking back at the tour I think the pluses were the batting of Chamara Silva and the bowling of Malinga Bandara. "The tour itself once again taught us some lessons and I am sure that will help us to do well in the World Cup." Silva, who picked up a man-of-the-match award for his century, added: "It was tough going when I went in there. "I just wanted to survive and the presence of Marvan Atapattu helped me greatly to get over the initial problems." Ganguly had retired with cramp in the first over but returned to provide valuable support to Singh in a partnership of 145. He said: "It was a good performance and I am glad that we won the series. "I must add that it is a great feeling to win two series (India previously beat West Indies 3-1). "We will now go to the World Cup in an excellent frame of mind and I feel we are peaking at the right time." India captain Rahul Dravid added: "All credit to the boys for playing so well. "It is never easy to come back after been one down at the start. "It was good to see Yuvraj Singh get back to form at an important stage, while Robin Uthappa and Virender Sehwag batted extremely well. "We are very confident the way we are playing at the moment and hope to play good cricket at the World Cup."
