Pinwath Mithura, It's a sin to kill even enemies at war :) A rare instance of such purity is: Shakya clan chosing death without fighting when they were invaded by King Vidudabha (with the sole aim of extermination). This happened because most of the Shakyas were practicing Buddhists... Then one may wonder why Buddhist monks did not intevene when kings/rulers fight against invaders... The reason is that aim of Dhamma is helping one purify oneself. Those practicing Dhamma never kill another being even if it costs his/her life. At the same time they do not go around protesting unnecessarily against killings at wars; killing animals; use of insecticides; etc. done by others. It's good if these things stop; but it won't as long as people have Raga, Dvesha and Moha inside. (note: What Dhamma does is helping individuals become free of Raga, Dvesha and Moha) Moreover Pancha Sila is not an End for the Buddhists. Practicing Five Percepts (Pancha Sila) does not help a Buddhist unless he/she does it as a part of the Path to Nibbana. True, It's good if all people start oberving the Fice Percepts; but that alone won't make them Buddhists... or help them attain Nibbana... So what Buddhists do is: spreading Dhamma so that others would start practicing. This is more effective because those practicing Dhamma are doing it genuinely; not because of fear of punishments; but because of knowing what it would bring forth... Hope I've addressed your concern... Theruwan saranai!
