Buddha simply rejected it because he knew The answer is too complex for the brahmin to understand..and thereafter buddha named  five (as I can remember) questions he wont answer under any circumstances.. and the question of time travel was among them..but It is said in the old sutras,  that the buddha had a vision of future ( Divya chakku ghyana or something similar) which allows him to see what happens in the future.. This vision is obtained thruogh hard meditation sessions.
