However, this documentary also investigates whether Google is aware of the responsibility it has, being the guard to the entire world's information, including personal information about its users. The documentary poses the question: will Google continue to serve as a middleman that brings all useful information to the people? Or will it turn into a monopolistic Big Brother that challenges the freedom of information? Google - Behind the screen is an Dutch documentary which aired in Australia the 04.07.2006 on SBS. A wonderful documentary (47 mins) created by Ijsbrand van Veelen features some interesting discussions with Marissa Mayer, Vint Cerf, Ian Brown (Open Rights Group), Brewster Kahle (founder of Internet Archive) and some Google engineers. They talk about PageRank, targeted advertising, life at Google, user privacy, machine translation, the story of "Don't be evil", book search, the danger of Google's monopoly, Google Earth. The video is really well-made, it tries to be objective by showing different opinions on the same subject, even though it's more inclined towards conspiracy theories. The documentary puts tough questions like: "How can you convince people that Google isn't a Big Brother company?", "Can we see how do you scan the books?", "Should the digitization of books be made by a company like Google who may require fees to query the database for a research project?", "What happens if a search engine becomes dominant?". Screenshots
http://rapidshare.com/files/144342890/GOOGLE.Behind.The.Screen.2006.XviD.DOCU.By.Deejam.part1.rar http://rapidshare.com/files/144342973/GOOGLE.Behind.The.Screen.2006.XviD.DOCU.By.Deejam.part2.rar http://rapidshare.com/files/144342900/GOOGLE.Behind.The.Screen.2006.XviD.DOCU.By.Deejam.part3.rar http://rapidshare.com/files/144342976/GOOGLE.Behind.The.Screen.2006.XviD.DOCU.By.Deejam.part4.rar
Note: Language is English
