wedi wisthara Udarata Menike A train journey to the hills unspools on Rupavahini “Udarata Menike” is the newest television series that unspools on Rupavahini every Saturday at 7.30 pm. This is a travel magazine programme based on an aesthetic journey along the railway track from Colombo to Badulla, exploring nature, history and culture on the way. Precisely this is the first ever TV Travel Magazine series in the Sri Lankan Television history and is being written and directed by award wining TV director Athula Disanayaka and Mayuri Wanaguru. Athula was awarded for his TV programme - Watarawuma as the Best Current affairs Programme and best magazine programme respectively at the Sumathi Tele Award 2006 and State TV Award 2007. The journey between Colombo and Badulla covers a distance of about 300 km or 180 miles. British engineers completed the main line, from Colombo to Badulla within 66 years. This main line is ranked as one of the great railway journeys among the other railways in the world. The most wonderful fact of this track is this train,”Udarata Menike” which begins its journey at 14 feet elevation in Colombo and it runs up to Pattipola in Nuwara Eliya District at a height of 6224 feet above sea level. The entire track consists 44 tunnels and about 80 stations. The train journey from Colombo to Badulla takes 9 hours approximately. Between Hatton and Haputale, the people would sense the flash of mist and its embrace. Green terrain of tea cultivation makes the most charming scenes. Beyond the tea land you could witness panoramic scenes of different tones of blue strips of mountain range stretched away in to infinity. Horton Plains and other preserved forests make the origin of pure fountains. The waterfalls, wet and cold air, dropping water streams to rocky bottoms located hundreds of feet below from the top of waterfall. Credits Script & Directed By: Athula Disanayaka, Mayuri Wanguru Theme song written by: Athula Dissanayaka & Mayuri Wanaguru Theme music by: Lalith Wicramarathna Theme song : Nelu Adhikari, Kapila Poogala Archchi & Lalth Wickramarathna.
