The story revolves around Astronaut Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell), who has been living on the moon in a base named Selene. He is approaching the end of his three-year contract with Lunar Industries to mine the precious gas Helium-3, which is supposed to answer the energy problem being faced by the residents of Earth. He eagerly looks forward to his return to Earth and reunion with his wife and daughter, as well as life after an early retirement. But just two weeks before his departure from Selene, Sam’s health starts worsening all of a sudden. He starts to have painful headaches, hallucinations and a lack of focus, which ultimately results in him getting into a nearly fatal accident. As he is recovering at the base, Sam comes across a younger and angrier clone of himself.  Sam then realizes that Lunar intends to replace him and it is not only his contract that is nearing its end!!</blockquote>
