If they allow it then you can show 10 year continuation without a gap. Work visa only valid for 2 years. So you need to renew it 3-4 times.Usually what they are doing is allow you to apply within country for 1-2 times and then ask you to go back to your country and apply again. That way they can break your 10year continuation and you will not be able to apply for ILR.There are ways around these problems but not guaranteed and cost you a lot.I'm living on UK nearly 14 years now and have ILR(PR).
