Local warlords built up their own little "kingdoms" and fought against each other for what they thought valuable, while the governments tried in vain to stabilize these conflicts. Brazil was an exception. There were signs of warlords building up their strength in the deep Amazonian jungle, but the country at large lived in relative peace. One day, however, a plane crashed in Amazonas State, and we were called in to rescue the survivors and find some precious data, which in the wrong hands, could become extremely perilous to national security. We were mercenaries, and the NSA offered good money, so we accepted the job. We shouldn't have." The game's story follows the path of a mercenary unit sent to the Amazonian jungle. They were sent there to complete another mission (finding a missing plane a retrieve a valuable package from it), but their plane is getting shot down by enemy troops. Some of their comrades are dead and most of their supplies are gone, but they have to find a way out from the jungle alive. A young archeologist locates them and manages to persuade them to rescue her. From here on the mercenaries fight their way through Juarez's soldiers toward the archeologist, who is the only hope for them to escape. On their way, they find themselves in situations where they help the inhabitants and the loyal government military and, with their actions, they change the outcome of the civil war. For more detailed information, see the storyline appendix of the design document. The Game World: Setting The story takes place in the last month of 2011. The world is recovering from a large scale economical crisis. The crisis made life in the third world countries even harder, and much more unsafe. In South America, huge territories are under the control of local warlords and guerilla organizations. They built their own "kingdom" in these places, and the government has little or no power in these separated areas. Brazil was an exception until now, its political integrity remained fairly strong, but there are several organizations and individuals in the background who want to change that. The location is the Amazonian rainforest in the Brazilian state: Amazonas. The area is far from civilization and seldom populated. Most of the population is concentrated in the city of Manaus hundreds of miles east of the game area. The local civilization lives mostly near the rivers and on the few plantations. These plantations generate most of the state's income and their owners are considered the most powerful men in the state, and in the country. Technically they control the state together with some local warlords. They are not only growing coffee however. Some of them make a living from selling arms to the guerillas in Colombia and Peru, while others are growing coca leaves to produce cocaine or destroying the rainforest and selling the valuable trees. One of the most powerful plantation owners in the area is Juan Pablo Juarez. In the civilized world he is a recognized and trusted businessman and a well known and generous patron of ancient native arts and archeology. In reality the source of his fortune is the huge amount of weapons he sold to the guerillas and tons of arts illegally smuggled out of the country. He built an impressive satellite system near his hacienda where he employs skilled archeologists to look for ruins hidden deep in the jungle. The construction of the satellite control complex was big news even in the foreign media as it was said to be the newest and best archeological research center. But in reality, the complex's real objective is to support Juarez's plan to create his own country in Amazonas. There are state-of-the art satellite, communication and radar jamming equipment in the complex, which can render every such system above the state useless. He also created a whole army of soldiers trained and supervised by experienced foreign mercenaries. He also created a hot situation in the state, which he could make even hotter and create a civil war, and as its leader, create an independent country in Brazil. To make it easier, he bought some leaders of the military and allied with several warlords. Not long before he initiates the civil war he employs a young female archeologist to the satellite archeologist team. Not long after began working, the archeologist discovered that the satellite system has hidden abilities, and there are strange things happening in the area. She thought about resigning from the job and leaving the country but she thought that Juarez won't let her. She decided not to say anything and find a way to escapee. It is not an easy task however: the satellite control center is surrounded by the jungle and Juarez's soldiers. Even if she somehow manages to escape from the facility, she would die in the jungle long before she can reach the civilization. Game Details..........
