What is the most powerful army in the world? As a retired journalist for a news agency, I have been asked this question countless times. In all honest to god reality, it is a flip-flop. To further help you understand this question, you should check up on a brief history lesson. For the majority of the past century, the U.S. and Russia (formerly USSR) had been presumed the "Most Powerful Military in the world." In todays terminology, this pick between two superpowers into one is not as cut-clear. It seems today that the world does not have one or two superpowers competing for the title "most powerful military." Today, any number or handful of nations could come into conflict with one another and in each instance, the one military may be able to "defeat" the other. As I presume and what I find most interesting is the fact that many times the "most powerful military" title is proclaimed by the writer of that nation. Patriotic and not the least bit unusual. As a British journalist, you would expect me to say that the UK has the "most powerful military in the world." sorry to disappoint but I will not go there. Now that we are past that portion of the answer, you wanted facts, here they are. LARGEST MILITARY: Peoples Republic of China 3,000,000 strong (men ready and able to fight that are already enlisted or commissioned [Chinese gov website] http://www.gov.cn/ LARGEST BUDGET: United States of America (bigger than some nations total budget) [CIA World Factbook] https://www.cia.gov/ LARGEST ARSENAL OF WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION: Russia (16,000 warheads, 10,000 reentry vehicles) [bulletin of atomic scientists] http://www.thebulletin.org/ The above facts are just there for reference, this question asks for an opinion. Frankly, it is too complex to say which nation has the "most powerful army" Let it be known that such statements like: "The U.S. has the most powerful Air Force, the most powerful Navy, and the best equipped and one of the best trained Armies in the world" or "I would say" are indeed merely opinions and are truly not grounded in facts. Both comments listed below are frankly opinions, in a research papers, "I" is never used and citations are always placed. As a journalist, academia is grounded in proof of research and not opinionated statements. ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS CITE YOUR SOURCES listed below are previous answers to this question -- The United States of America has the most powerful Military in the world by far. My Opinion You're wrong there. The United States is far from being the most powerful--it's definitely up there though. By far, in terms of infantry and tanks China is the most powerful, while Russia has (besides hardened soldiers) produced the most efficient missile systems and tanks in the world. North Korea also certainly is one of the most powerful, no question about it. I would say the United States has a fair balance of all. You should probably research into the subject a little before blatantly stating what is popularly believed in your nation. Another Opinion The United States IS by far the most powerful. China has more troops, true, but the U.S. has more tanks. The tanks that China DOES have are mostly old Russian tanks and many of them (if not most) are missing parts and not ready for combat. The same goes for North Korea, they have many troops, but are using outdated equipment. Russia has many many more tanks than any other country but like China, most are outdated and out of commission. The U.S. has the most powerful Air Force, the most powerful Navy, and the best equipped and one of the best trained Armies in the world. Seems like you should have been the one putting more research into this subject, no offense of course. In Response to the Above Opinion The US is not the most powerful. China does not have old Russian tanks, they used to. Russia ESPECIALLY does not have outdated equipment. As for North Korea, they may have outdated soldier equipment, but they have some of the best missile equipment in the world. I don't think its that anyone needs to do more research, just that most Americans have a false belief that they are superior. source http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_the_most_powerful_army_in_the_world
