Eg: where shaders are not VERY tensed, 3870 comes close to 8800gt, whereas when there is a lot of shader processing required, 8800GT leaps ahead. (3870 has more shader units as per ATI, but 5 of them are equivalent to the result of 1 shader unit in Geforce 8/9/200 series, so actually 3870 has 64 shaders vs 112 of 8800gt's. 9600gt also has 64 shaders, that's why the two cards usually perform close by to each other)</blockquote>
