So figure out some other reason to stay on like further visiting of the country.I have no idea about British Immigration system, but I think if you apply for a visa extension, till you get a reply from the Immigration your stay is legal even if your original date is past. ( This is how US system works) Usually in here it takes 2 to 3 months to get a response from the immigration. So basically you can buy some time by applying couple of weeks before the expiration date.
