The latest recall is in connection with a software flaw which could cause unintended acceleration.The recalls are the fourth for the latest versions of the best-selling Fit and the second for the Vezel model. The recall involves around 175,000 cars sold in Japan since 2013. A spokesperson for Honda Japan said that they had received 11 complaints of accidents between December and April – none involving fatalities – and the faults were attributed to an engine control system flaw.A spokesperson for Honda Sri Lanka told The Sunday Leader that a programme has already been put in place to upgrade the software on cars that are affected, adding that not all are in fact affected. At a minimal cost of approximately Rs 5,000 Honda will check if the upgrade is required and if so, carry out the software upgrade. They estimated an approximate time frame of two hours. Honda Sri Lanka also confirmed that most of these cars were reconditioned imports as opposed to cars imported by Honda Sri Lanka themselves.Honda had focused on a global surge in business for compact cars and had focused hopes on making a landmark shipment figure of 1.6 million units of the Fit, Vezel and City models which they hoped would boost their profits by up to 4%. Honda’s plans to ship 1.6 million of these models by 2016 would mean that these models account for nearly a quarter of its production.Earlier Honda Japan made three recalls – all for unconnected problems – mainly in connection with its Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) system.  Apparently the Japanese manufacturer is having a persistent problem with the software program controlling the 7-speed dual clutch transmission (DCT) on the latest generation of the Fit Hybrid and the newly introduced Vezel Hybrid crossover.  In that recall 81,353 units of the new hybrid versions of the Fit hatchback and the Vezel crossover produced in Japan from July 2013 through February 2014, were recalled with Honda saying a glitch with the transmission software can cause a delay in the ability to begin driving or the inability to move at all.The two previous recalls on the DCT’s software (each due to a different cause) were conducted in October and December 2013.“Honda sincerely regrets causing this considerable inconvenience to its customers due to the fact that the defect was not discovered during the development and product quality verification processes prior to the introduction of a new technology to the market and the defective product quickly came to market,” said Honda in a statement. “Moreover, despite the fact that all relevant divisions at Honda worked together earnestly to solve this market quality defect, Honda deeply regrets that the effectiveness of the countermeasures was not adequately verified.”The Japanese automaker said that it has developed a new control program that will solve the issues with the DCT, adding that it will suspend the delivery of all affected models, currently being produced at Yorii Plant of Saitama Factory and Suzuka Factory, until the installation of the new software program is completed.</blockquote>
