Pinwath mithuriya, Nice to have you posting in EK :) I do not know much about it; and (I am sorry) I do not want to find more out about it... because... Saddharma Pundarika sutta is only found in Mahayana; it's not in the original discloses we Theravada Buddhists accept. According to Mahayana followers cannot attain Nibbana; everyone thinks oneself as Bodhisathwa trying to attain Buddhahood... Practicing Dhamma (esp. Noble Eightfold Path) is pointless according to what they belive... (please correct me if not)... I agree with you here... Since there's nothing in Mahayana we can realize towards Nibbana in this life (to me) it's like a religion (which the disciples are forced to accept with blind faith...). By contrast, Theravada Buddhism carries the Path disclosed by Sammasambuddha Gautama; that we can follow and realize (depending on our capability) in this very life... If you are not a follower of Mahayana (in that case: I am sad; but cannot say more) please stick to Theravada buddhism... To justify my plea: Both Mahayana & Theravada traditions carry the discloses in Tipitaka; Mahayana has additional sutta (like the one you've mentioned) which they highlight over the original teachings... As we know Dhamma is "swakkatha" - well disclosed; which means each word in Dhamma harmoniously agree with the others... We can clearly see it in the original teachings of Tipitaka; everything agrees well.. You can see for yourself.... So following Mahayana will only cause one to loose the chance one has to follow Dhamma in this very life... Please think about it... Again: nice to have you to discuss Dhamma with... :) Theruwan saranai!
