Pro Wrestling is not fake Ask the common American person what they think of professional wrestling and chances are youll hear Its fake!. What separates the reality of sports-entertainment from your favorite sitcom? What makes wrestling so much more fake than a soap opera or a primetime drama such as ER or CSI: Crime Scene Investigation? Well reality is that pro-wrestling is much more real than any scripted show on television. While the plots and storylines of WWE programming are planned, scripted, and well organized, its characters live their lives as who we see them as on television. Their careers mean everything to them. . . . Yet the fact is that there is no way to rig everything. However, what really defines the reality of wrestling is not the plot, but the pure pain. You cant fake a ten foot fall and still make it sound like theyre landing on a hard surface. In order to make something look real, it has to be real. Many people think that there is always a way to make everything hurt less while still making it look real. Foley blacked out twice during the match and suffered a dislocated jaw, several broken ribs, an ankle broken in two places, as well as the loss of two teeth. In the same match, Foley was choke slammed through the top of the cage onto the ring, which was covered in actual sharp thumbtacks. The truth is, every ring is made of boards, every chair is made of unforgiving steel, and every table is made of wood strong enough to support the weight of a grown man. When a wrestler attempts such stunts, he is putting his life on the line because hes willing to sacrifice anything for what he loves. Many people assume that everything in professional wrestling is rigged somehow. At the 1998 King Of The Ring, the 287 pound Mick Foley was thrown like a rag doll off the top of a twenty foot cage through a Spanish announce table. However no one can deny the fact that wrestling is not fake.
