SRi Lanka Laws bought to harass innocent people to get money to President

I’m a 20 year old Citizen of Sri Lanka who is deeply ashamed of my countries laws and regulations. Please forward this letter to his Excellency who knows to do everything right! Without any mistakes or short comings and have made a mockery of people like me.

I have been riding my Safari 4S moped (with pedals) for the last two years and have ridden it over 24,000KM in the Colombo city, it was bought through the Sarasavi Bookshop where my father works for monthly payment. Recently a new law was put into effect which required these pedal mopeds to be registered. I was forced to register my moped because the police fined me Rs. 5000/- and told me that I would have to pay the fine if I don’t register my moped. This what I call “Government Blackmail’s people”

I was requested by Singer Sri Lanka to pay Rs. 3800/- for registration of the bike. By this time I also applied for the Driving License paying Rs. 1800/- to the Weerahara DMT. I sat for the written exam and passed and was issued a Learning Permit and was told to come for the practical test on the 20th of May. I also obtained a 3rd Party insurance cover with Learner Driver cover which cost me Rs. 950/-.

On the 20th of May 2011 I went to the DMT for my practical test on my Safari 4S moped and was told that I could not take part in the test because I require a FULL INSURANCE with Learning Cover and plus because I need to have a letter of permission from the Sarasavi Bookshop.

You as a President of the country, is this how new laws should be held? Making a Mockery of people like us? The letter would not be a problem. But a FULL insurance on my moped bike would cost me over Rs. 6000/-. As a learning student of this country, if trying to ride a moped costs me over Rs. 10,000/- because of a LAW how am I suppose to respect it? The law must think of the people and classes! A moped I got to pay Rs. 1200 per month and I have to pay Rs. 10,000!!! For person who have ridden my bike over 24,000KM safely what more practical tests?

Mr. President, don’t tell me “I DIDN’T KNOW”, I don’t believe it, you have a very cunning method of running this country and making a total mockery of innocent people like us! Please see to it that I get my A1 under 100cc License without any delay. This is not helping me! This is called Harassment! Through income to the government! At the Weerahara DMT I was told to get a bike for hire! Which had gears! I told them and I tell you. Why the hell do I need to ride a geared bike if I’m going to ride a gear-less one! And who is going to “GIVE” me a geared bike to practice for several days?

You bring laws like eggs out of a Hen. Personally I hate you for now on as a 20 year old of this country. Because you know why? You act as if you are doing GOOD but at the end harassing people of this country. I more feel like you are attacking me.

Who says he doesn't? I heard our next Jesus Christ President (son of Lord, who was conceived by the virgin Mary, and is about be Crucified and Buried) is very literate in computer and internet :P

And even if he doesn't, there are followers of Mahinda Christ who feed him news at EK!

i donno the intention of this post or the letter for that matter.
true, getting a full insurance to a motorbike is useless but then again. Whether its 50cc or 49cc it's a good law to have the bikes registered and to have drivers licence in order to ride them. In west, there are worse laws than this bro.
you can't have anyone else other than the driver if the bike is under 100cc or sth in European countries bro...
so every law or every government has its flaws. dont take it too serious.
    It unfair of this law
i agree with u there machan

I know, I'm not here to say that this law is a very bad thing, but when implementing it existing riders must be given a exception in the requirements! The law must applaud the people who abide by it, and who want to abide by it. Yesterday at DMT they should have allowed me to take part at-least because I CAME in the bike! What a shame!

Monday I'm trying to meet the DMT commissioner and get this sorted out. But the President is 100% blame worthy because of his idiotic short-term thinking idea and laws.... This is clearly not a quality of President that can develop a country but qualities of a President who can wage a war! And that is what he is doing, he is waging a war on the innocent people like us!

I'm not intending on talking about Sri Lankan Full Insurance and its big fake lies!

Absolute bullshit in both cases. You're just finding excuses to blame the president. Laws like these are passed by the parliament. For a president to pass laws, he'll have to use executive powers and rule by decree, Something no SL president has done up to now.

We all know the UNP leaders are also running off Mahinda's accounts.... thats why Ranil is acting like the Joker of the card set.....

so ultimately this is just another political mud bath. My earlier statement stands true.
If you didnt know, any law passed within the country, if it is unjust can be appealed at the supreme court. If you feel so strongly that a law stating that unlicensed riders should have a fully insured motor bike to give their trials, thus in the event of an accident the insurance covers all parties involved, is unjust, appeal it at the supreme court.
I for one, believe that anyone, in this country, using the public roads should be made to have a license to prove that they are competent enough to use a public road. This includes pedestrians, footcyclists, moped users, motocycle users and users of any vehicle that has more that 2 wheels.

U should join Mahinda.... yes, provide Licenses but provide it free! ;) The idea should not be to earn money into the government ;) U seriously don't have any idea about Insurance gimmicks in Sri Lanka... those who know will know... I don't have time to share my experiences with Insurance. ;)

EDIT : Also remember that the world cannot be made PERFECT... A government must lower accidents... yes... but at what cost? Harassing people? A Good example is.. there are places where Mother and Father BOTH go to work to have a better future and money... the son stays alone at home after school and does whatever he wants! Like bring down girls and doing bad things... or having bad friends over and getting into drugs... and then after a few years.... There is a mother and father with tons of money and a good future for a son who doesn't know to use it!!!

the idea is to ensure minimum damage to the public.
You are saying that governments shouldnt take money. By that I take it you agree that government should not to provide free higher and basic education, health services, basic infrastructure, roads and railways, school books, school uniforms, Garbage collection (in urban areas), etc ?

Two Uniforms are not enough haha... University in Sri Lanka are battlefields... which is why new students need training in army camps  (educated people are not suppose to be fighters)... Roads in Moratuwa still suck since 1990's.... Futher more since the Government is lazy, they just carpet road over and over again causing the road to become higher! Causing massive flooding in Moratuwa! Actually this government is not all to blame.... Sinhalese kind is lazy u know ;)

Listen man, what are you saying? the government is just? dude, are you are millionaire? or a person that is always inside your home??? Go out and see people... talk with people... hear them! I'm a social worker... don't tell me how well the government works OK? All the services provided by the government is just a SHOW! nothing more.... best comes to people who lick the Presidents feet! others get photo's not the real thing ;)
