I agree. Neither women nor men need to be respected for being a particular gender. Everyone deserves basic respect and equal treatment. Everyone deserves consideration as a fellow human being. Any further respect has to be earned by that individual by his or her abilities and personality.

I don't think women need any special 'respect' or consideration. If all of the society would treat them with equality and basic human respect, they would be much better off than they are now, with this whole 'respect the women and idealize them' concept.

I give special respect to people who are highly talented, or are simply better people than I am. But that respect should just be a state of mind. There's no need to bend over backwards to please anyone. That is quite true. There is such a thing as over respect. No one deserves that as we are all fallible humans.
