British Airways (BA) is launching flights to Sri Lanka.

The airline will start three-times-a-week flights from London Gatwick Airport to Bandaranaike International Airport on March 31 2013.

BA will operate Boeing 777 planes on the route, with flights operating via Male in the Maldives.

BA's Gatwick managing director, Silla Maizey, said: "This is such an exciting new route for us. The UK has the second largest number of tourists visiting Sri Lanka after India. Sri Lanka has so much to offer visitors from beach, spa or adventure holidays, to cultural, wildlife and nature breaks."
