Ones of a figure with such a knowledge and high IQ like Stark appear in Iron man film, are almost always geek and hate confrontation and doesnt sell himself to the public. They just wanna be left alone.
But the stark guy is a superstar. I can even remember of him dancing with girl on an open stage. Well thats not necessarily fit the image.

In sherlock holmes case I just didnt like it. No solid reason

the film introduces Stark as an intelligent, brash, womanizer from the get go. So there's nothing out of character there..

I think he made a Great Sherlock Holmes he had every characteristic of the Holmes from the book, some were a little exaggerated. that's it. and Watson was made compatible. not so boring like in the book.
