Whys Sri Lanka opted from DVB-T to ISDB-T TV standard. Rs 13 Billion Japanese Loan

Sri Lanka had initially decided on the European standard in 2010, but changed its mind after an all-out sales blitz by Japan.

The spread of the Japanese standard would feed demand for infrastructure, such as antennas and base stations, as well as for digital content, creating new opportunities for Japanese companies. Many developing countries still have not adopted any digital broadcast format, and Japan hopes that successful implementation in Sri Lanka would serve as a model for its eventual entry into South and Central Asia as well as Africa.

Go for DVB-T

ISDB-T uses H.264 compression , its better than DVB-T. DVB-T is a very old technology and has week signals

None of Them have MPEG 4 but DVB -T2 has MPEG 4. Which uses less bandwidth and more channels. You cannot find ISDB T digital radio or TV setup box easyly. You have to import it. While most Sri Lankan expatriates will have DVB -T /DVB-T2 tech. But would not be able to use them in this country. Local private stations transmit in DVB-T.

With Digital TV one can have Regional News instead of National News of other provinces.

This is same fight as Beta Max vs VHS, HDVD vs Blueray, PAL vs NTSC vs SECAM, etc

Every Sri Lankan would have to pay a minimum Rs 3000 for digital setup box of japanesse origin.That means 4 million TV users in Sri Lanka has to spend 12,000,000,000 RS . 12 Billion Rs is no easy task .DVB-T2 is cheaper.

This is the same as PAL-B Tv introduced by Japan. PAL was invented not by Japan but by German . It was better than the SECAM , etc which were in use in Europe and America at that time. Do not buy this conspiracy theory. When a latest technology comes it changes within short time. Can you all remember ETAx mobile and AMPS mobile (analog) now all uses digital(GSM). So the best will prevail at the end. We cannot say what is best at this moment. (Sony Beta was a failure so did so many Eg Philiphs DAT tape and even LCD screens.... list goes on)
So do not buy the conspiracy theory , what is best will prevail over the time and one cannot say it now merely because of the percentage of users at the moment.

Note1: Under the static multipath condition, DVB-T and ISDB-T are almost same, but under the dynamic multipath condition, ISDB-T is superior than DVB-T thanks for "time interleave"

Note2: DVB-T has a function of hierarchical transmission function( non-uniform transmission), but no practical service in the world (because of lower receiving performance)
