So would you think that it is correct and reasonable for someone to hold to the notion of non existence of rebirth and reject the notion of existence of rebirth outright on the grounds that the person fails to sense, fails to see, fails to hear a reasonable explanation from others to the contrary?

    Skylark

of course, you cant sense it, you have no way of sensing it, you cant see it, no way of seeing it, so why should i believe in it,

fine, then i should believe in it? isn't it being blind, just because someones says and no proper reason to believe.

in that case how can u point ur fingers on Muslims or any other religious gods, saying that they don't exist?

isn't it the same? you both have no way of proving it. you simply bring up questions when u cant answer a single question , instead you try to ask a question, isnt it. i have asked at one place " can you prove it" , yet you keep on asking for my level of knowledge.

instead of going on and on.. can you simply prove it?

if you cant, why should i believe it, and you might say im not educated enough to understand those. if i couldn't understand it, how can the village siripala understand it. religion or a guidance has to be clear isnt it. it has to be sharp and has to simple so that anyone can understand it.

In that case your reasoning breaks and the conclusion is illogical. Your reasoning which brought you to that conclusion is not sharp but blunt.

There is some chance of you moving in the correct direction if you understand correctly why your previous reasoning broke and the conclusion was illogical.

You have already said "ok, fine i accept it, i was illogical, fine...", but those words don't appear to sharply and truly reflect your understanding about why you failed. I leave it for you to think about why exactly you used those words.

Questions can be asked by some people for the purpose of demeaning others or to find an easy way to escape from the damage to the self due to own faults. But in a learning process, questions help to recognize if someone has grasped well, where exactly someone is stuck and to determine an appropriate reaction.

If a person who is blind from the birth rejects the existence of light and rejects the existence of others who see the light but claims "There is no light. There is no one who sees the light. Otherwise, prove it to me!", people who see the light and people who see others who see the light will call the blind person an unwise.

Similarly, if a person who hasn't sensed or seen the rebirth rejects the existence of rebirth and rejects the existence of others who sense and see the rebirth but claims "There is no rebirth. There is no one who senses and sees the rebirth. Otherwise, prove it to me!", the wise who sense and see the rebirth will call that person an unwise.

People who see the light and see others who see the light wouldn't attempt to help the blind, by firstly proving to the blind, to a level with no uncertainties, the existence of light and the existence of others who see the light. Because, they know that it is a purposeless act even if the blind screams for proving first beyond doubts. Instead, they see that the act of the blind is foolish.

Similarly, the wise who sense and see the rebirth wouldn't attempt to help an unwise, by firstly proving to the unwise, to a level with no uncertainties, the existence of rebirth and the existence of others who sense and see the rebirth. Because, they know that it is a purposeless act even if the unwise screams for proving first beyond doubts. Instead, they see that the act of the unwise is foolish.

Buddhism has never been in the past, is not at present, and would not be in future a science that firstly proves the existence of rebirth and the existence of those who sense and see the rebirth to the freshers, to convince them to follow The Eightfold Path revealed by the Lord Buddha. Instead, it has been in the past, is at present, and will be in future the supreme science that assists the followers to gradually move themselves to the state where The Four Noble Truths, which include the rebirth, are completely proved by the followers individually to themselves, with no uncertainties remained.

Sorry mate, I myself, other Buddhists or anyone else will not be able to prove the existence of rebirth to you in a way where no uncertainties would remain, as the first step, in a process that leads you to have no uncertainties. While the prior steps of correct reasoning will converge you gradually to accept the existence of rebirth and the doubts about the rebirth diminish gradually, the rebirth will crisply be proved to you, by yourself, only after you sense and see the rebirth for yourself. The ability to sense and see the rebirth is different from the ability to reason. So, that ability needs to be grown via means meant for that. Also, even at that state a person will have some doubtful areas due to the illusion so should not be fully trusted as it is without further action. The end of the proving process is reached, where no uncertainties would remain, once a person completes the full comprehension of The Four Noble Truths. There, the end is characterized by the person realizing that what had to be done was done, no further action is needed in this regard.

Actually I don't want to argue. Just wanted to make you aware of this reincarnation. You can find too many proofs of rebirth. just Google the word "reincarnation"..

And please say me what u got.. And let me know if you couldn't find any.

    mmrizmy,

I wonder if my explanations to you were sufficient for you to determine that the teachings of Lord Buddha are not about nonsense but are logical, sharp and maintain integrity and we followers attempt to grasp them as have been told by Lord Buddha.

I am still here and haven't slipped away. Have you?

Sorry bro. i was not online for some time. had to attend a wedding in ampara.

By the way. im really happy with your explanation. and really appreciate the fact of being polite. when it comes to subjects like this people tend to argue in a harsh manner.

Also i can accept your points. thought i still need some validation.

    mmrizmy,

It's good to see that you decided to let go a position that you held a bit firmly. Lord Buddha had told us to hold to positions softly but not firmly. That allows us to easily discard a position after seeing something wrong with it and swiftly move to a better position. If someone does that, it's not a moment to laugh at that person for altering views. It's a moment to praise for his/her ability to move in the correct direction swiftly and easily.

It's better to be polite at all times. But being soft and being rigid are needed at different times. In terms of politeness, we also need to accept some margin of tolerance for sudden misbehavior that would disappear shortly. People differ. As long as I see that someone is making progress, I wouldn't mind accepting some amount of impulsive deviations from being polite. I myself have been observing me and it's not fair for me to expect politeness all the times from others when I see that I myself demonstrate impulsive deviations. But knowing the benefits to self, I continue to tame myself. Knowing the benefits to others, I call others to tame themselves. So, it's better to be polite at all times.

You have mentioned about the need for further validation. I acknowledge that. That validation itself may not be an easy task. However, if one can complete that validation, that's an invaluable fortune for that person. The validation you have mentioned is not the completion of the proving process I outlined earlier, but a significant initial milestone. If someone seeks guidelines to at least complete that validation, such guidelines are not found anywhere elsewhere but only in Buddhism. One needs to grow and possess significant manly determination and manly courage to put effort to complete that validation. But as said earlier, completing that validation is an invaluable fortune for a person even though further actions are needed to reach the ultimate goal.

I am a born and bred buddhist too , out of all the other existing religions buddhism is far more superior, you cant actually call it a religion its more of a philosophy..even i had the same question when i was small , who decides whats right and wrong? its all subjective , it depends on our perception ... and anyway who calculates the deeds we do and decide if we are born as a dog , cat , or human? there should be a set of varibles predetermined in the universe then , and that cant be anyway.....society changes , what was wrong 100 years back , might be totally acceptable now , n so on ......What i belive is religon is something we humans made , we always wanted something superior thats why we worshiped fire , sun and mooth initially... religions stop your thinking ( in that case buddhism is very liberal) ...hmm...interesting
